PARTICIPATORY WORKSHOP SESSIONS
Participatory art workshops are an important part of my practice. Getting together on an art project can improve participants well being, help with learning and communication or go towards brightening up the environment with a unique piece of co-created art. I facilitate workshops with groups from the community and schools on co-creative projects where the participant learn new skills and approaches to the art making process; including sculpture, painting, murals and mosaics. These projects can range from a one day visit to a school to make mod roc sculptures to a more permanent artwork which will include ideas and designs from participants.
VIEWS FROM THE BRIDGE
This was a major participatory project that I undertook in 2018. Working with The Bridge Project in Leeds, a centre that supports adults with learning disabilities, we co-created an exhibition of paintings about peoples lives at the centre and all of the activities that they get to do there. During 3 months we painted 26 paintings in acrylic that were exhibited later in the year at Inkwell Arts, a community arts venue in the north of the city and at the Beyond Festival, the annual city wide event for the visual arts. They are now on permanent display at the Health for All offices. The project was funded by Health of All and Leeds Inspired.
