THE SEA
I grew up right next to the sea and our playground was a large area of shingle beach. An ancient river estuary, where over time, traces had been left of human intervention in an effort to defend it against invaders, against the sea until more recently it was excavated to build a marina and residential harbour. Many of these paintings have grown out of that experience and explore the duality of coastal areas which form a natural boundary but also allow an escape into the unknown across the water.
